Thurs., July 8: Minot, ND
Join Utopia Tours as we travel into Canada to experience the Canadian Rockies,
the Calgary Stampede, the Banff area, and more. The Calgary Stampede has been a
popular festival for the Calgary area for many years. The Canadian Rockies will
entice you with majestic views and scenery. Our destination today is Minot, ND.
Fri., July 9: Medicine Hat, AB (CB)
We depart Minot this morning and soon cross the border at Portal, ND. Here we
can have coffee and do a money exchange. Entering Saskatchewan with its
fascinating landscape, there will be time spent in Moose Jaw, The Friendly City.
Then continue on, arriving this evening in Medicine Hat, AB.
Sat., July 10: Canadian Rockies ~ Calgary, AB (CB)
Our journey continues and we anxiously await seeing the Canadian Rockies as they
soon appear on the horizon. We are heading for Calgary, AB, home of the Calgary
Stampede and often called a "cowtown,” for a two-night stay. Calgary is a major
oil center in Canada and has experienced phenomenal growth. Upon arrival we go
to the Sunridge Mall where you can have lunch on your own, enjoy the western
shops, and more here. This afternoon we go to the Stampede Grounds for freetime.
Then, this evening we have reserved seats as we watch riders race with their
thoroughbreds and chuckwagons to the finish line at the exciting Chuckwagon
Races. The races also feature a musical show with singing, dancing, and a
fabulous fireworks display.
Sun., July 11: Calgary, AB (CB)
Today, we will explore and do some sight-seeing in Calgary including visits to
the Calgary Tower and Chinatown. Later morning we will go back to the Stampede
Grounds where you will have time to browse through the many exhibits, have lunch
on own, see free shows at the Saddledome, see a dog show, visit an Indian
Village, shop, and much more. This afternoon we go to the center of the
“Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth” - the sensational Rodeo where cowboys battle
for a million dollar prize as they are challenged with bull riding, steer
wrestling, saddle bronc, barrell racing, and more.
Mon., July 12: Banff, AB (CB)
The Canadian Rockies surround us today as we travel a short distance from
Calgary into Banff National Park and the serene Lake Louise area. A visit will
be made to picturesque Chateau Lake Louise, nestled in the mountains. Here we
view the Victoria Glacier as it reflects off the water, an awesome sight to see.
Then we make our way to the world-famous resort area of Banff, AB. Enjoy Banff
on your own this evening.
Tues., July 13: Whitefish, MT (CB)
We start our way home today routing through British Columbia and the Yoho
National and the Kootenay National Parks and back into the States. A stop will
be made in Radium Hot Springs, BC, where you may wish to take a dip in the
naturally warm water of the hot springs pool. Our scenic journey continues as we
cross into the United States and the Rocky Mountains on 93 to Whitefish, MT,
where we will stay for the night.
Wed., July 14: Shelby, MT (CB)
Our tour continues as we travel to Lake McDonald where we board their
tourmobiles to view Glacier National Park on the “Going to the Sun Highway.” It
goes over Logans Pass, crosses the Continental Divide, and arrives at St. Mary’s
at noon to enjoy lunch on your own. After this special adventure we travel to
Shelby, MT.
Thurs., July 15: Minot, ND (CB)
The scenery becomes more familiar as we make our way eastward to Minot, ND.
Fri., July 16: Home (CB)
Today we remember all the beautiful sights we have seen in the Canadian Rockies,
Banff National Park, Glacier National Park, the North Dakota Badlands, plus the
awesome Calgary Stampede! Thank you for traveling with Utopia Tours.
