Wed,. May 5: Holland, MI / Grand Rapids, MI (CB)
We travel from Illinois to Holland, MI, to participate in the Holland Tulip
Festival. The Holland Tulip Festival is full of events and attractions
throughout each day. We will visit the Veldheer Tulip Gardens which also has the
DeKlomp Wooden Shoe & Delftware Factory. Here you will find Holland’s only tulip
farm with over 30 acres of tulips. The only Delftware factory in the USA is also
located here. You will have time to explore the Festival and have lunch on your
own. We will also enjoy a fun Tulip Trolley Tour from Centennial Park exploring
more of the area. We then go to Grand Rapids, MI, for the next two nights.
Thurs., May 6: Holland, MI / Grand Rapids, MI (CB)
There is more of the Holland Tulip Festival in store for us today. Today we
will visit Windmill Island and Dutch Village. Windmill Island has America’s only
245+ year-old working Dutch windmill, gift shoppe, candle carving, replica of
Dutch Inn, Little Netherlands Museum, a carousel, and an Amsterdam Street Organ.
There are to be 175,000 tulips planted that can be viewed from Windmill. Dutch
Village is one of Holland’s favorite attractions with featuring Dutch folk
dancing, wooden shoe carving, historical museums, spectacular gardens, rides for
kids, live entertainment throughout the day, and one of the largest selections
of imported gifts in the state. Our festival experience wouldn’t be complete
without the authentic Volksparade. The parade starts out with the tradition of
streetscrubbing, followed by the parade filled with dozens of colorful bands,
floats, and more. This evening includes a wonderful show by The Coasters, The
Drifters, & The Platters. Favorite songs by these groups are “Yakety Yak,”
“Under the Boardwalk,” and “Great Pretenders.” We then return to our hotel in
Grand Rapids.
Fri., May 7: Nappanee, IN / Rockford, IL (CB, L)
After a fun couple of days celebrating Tulip Time in Holland, MI, we make
our way south to Nappanee, IN. Embrace the Pace is the motto around here, and is
home of Amish Acres, a Historic Farm and Heritage Resort listed on the National
Register of Historic Places. Enjoy your time here as we stroll through the
house, do a farm wagon ride, and learn more about the life and times of the
Amish in this area. While here, you will be enjoy an a delicious lunch. We then
continue on to Rockford, IL, where we will stay for the night.
Sat., May 8: Home (CB)
The last few days we have been able to take in the sights and sounds of the

it is time to return home. We return home this later this afternoon. Thank you
