Mon., June 14: Door County, WI
Enjoy the unique atmosphere that surrounds the Mackinac Island and Door County
areas on this summer vacation. As we depart today we will drive through
Minnesota and Wisconsin farmlands to Door County, WI, for two nights making the
necessary meal stops along the way.
Tues., June 15: Door County, WI (CB, L, D)
This morning we will do a full day tour of Door County, known as the Cape Cod of
the Midwest. At charming Sister Bay, WI, we’ll have an included lunch at Al
Johnson’s Sod-roofed Swedish Restaurant. Plus tour this area including a stop at
the Door Peninsula Winery and some time in Fish Creek and Ephraim, WI. This
evening we will enjoy Door County’s traditional Fish Boil Buffet, a delicious
meal with all the fixins.
Wed., June 16: Mackinac Island, MI (CB)
This morning we depart Door County and travel along the Bay of Green Bay through
Escanaba and Manistique, MI, then cross the Mighty Mac Bridge to Mackinaw City,
MI. From the Bridge enjoy the views of Lake Huron and Lake Michigan. Shepler’s
Ferry will take us from Mackinaw City to Mackinac Island, MI. As we near the
Island you will see just how beautiful it is and some of the unique rock
formations. We step off the ferry into the yesteryears of a Victorian village
where no motorized vehicles are allowed, the cottages and lodging accommodations
are quaint, and so much more. This Victorian image is preserved and enhanced by
a small population of permanent residents and scores of summer residents who
maintain the bluff cottages in their original state. Enjoy the evening on your
own at one of the Island’s fine restaurants.
Thurs., June 17: Marquette, MI (CB, L)
This morning we will take a horse-drawn carriage tour of the Island as a local
guide expertly narrates our adventure. The tour ends at the Grand Hotel, perched
high up on the hillside, and beautifully landscaped, and home to the longest
covered porch in the World for a summer resort. While here enjoy an included
lunch. Later this afternoon Shepler’s Ferry will return us to the mainland where
we will reboard our motorcoach. From Mackinaw City we head northwest to
Marquette, MI, located on the shores of Lake Superior in Michigan’s scenic Upper
Peninsula. Our overnight is here in Marquette, MI.
Fri., June 18: Home (CB)
Our route home takes us to Duluth, MN, where you can spend some time in the
Canal Park area. Then we continue on, arriving home this evening after a great
tour exploring Wisconsin and Michigan. Thank you for traveling with Utopia
Tours.
