Tues., Sept. 16: There is no other place in the United States that does the fall colors more vivid than the New England States. Traveling through all of the New England States on this tour, we will discover the rich colonial history as we enjoy the enchanting countryside. Our first overnight will be in Schaumburg, IL.
Wed., Sept. 17: Our travels today take us through Illinois, Indiana, and into Ohio, with our overnight destination in Monroeville, PA.
Thurs., Sept. 18: Today we will continue on through Ohio to scenic Pennsylvania and the Allegheny Mountains into Historic Gettysburg, PA. Upon arrival we will go on a guided tour of the Gettysburg Battlefield, where on July1-3 in 1863 the bloodiest battle of the Civil War was fought resulting in 50,000 casualties. There will be time to visit the Battlefield Museum and learn more about the Civil War. After a busy day, we check into our hotel. This evening a delicious meal is included.
Fri., Sept. 19: Arriving in Washington, DC, today our day will be filled with more history and beautiful sites. We start off with a tour of the Capitol. This afternoon a step-on-guide joins us for a narrated tour of Washington, DC. Our tour will include Fords Theatre; the World War II Memorial; Lincoln, Korean and Vietnam Memorials; FDR Memorial; and the Jefferson Monument. Later, we will check into our lodging for a three-night stay.
Sat., Sept. 20: Our morning starts with a visit to the Holocaust Museum, followed by the Air and Space Smithsonian Museum. This afternoon we will tour the Washington National Cathedral and drive Embassy Row. At dusk we will go to Union Station for a meal on your own and do a tour of the illuminated monuments.
Sun., Sept. 21: This morning we will see the Iwo Jima Memorial before going to Mount Vernon. Mount Vernon is the beloved home of George and Martha Washington. More than a historic house, this original building is filled with 18th century treasures. Then, time will be spent at one of the Smithsonian Museums. This afternoon in Arlington, VA, we visit Arlington Cemetery to see one of the most impressive sights you will ever see, the changing of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. You will also see the gravesites of the Kennedys. We will visit more sights in DC as time allows.
Mon., Sept. 22: We leave our Nations capital making our way to New York City. Our first stop will be at the South Street Seaport, restored to display the city's maritime history, with emphasis on the days of old sailing vessels. We can have lunch at a number of restaurants or food courts and have some time to browse the museums and the shops. A local step-on-guide will narrate while we have a city tour seeing Ground Zero, Rockefeller Center, Chinatown, and more. Later we will go on to our lodging in Secaucus, NJ, for a two-night stay.
Tues., Sept. 23: This morning we will view Manhattan on our way to Battery Park, where we will board the ferry that takes us to Liberty Island and Ellis Island. Here we will see the Statue of Liberty and at Ellis Island we learn of our ancestry. Then we will go to the "Top of the Rock" at Rockefeller Center (cost not included in this tour) where those that wish to, can take the elevator to the top to view the city. This evening we will spend time at Times Square to eat before seeing a Broadway Play (t.b.a.-cost not included in this tour). Later, we will return to our hotel.
Wed., Sept. 24: Leaving the hustle and bustle of this large metropolitan city, we arrive in quiet Plymouth, MA, where on December 21, 1620, 102 men, women, and children arrived on the Mayflower. We will have free time to enjoy the area. You can see Plymouth Rock, plus tour the replica of the Mayflower II. If you love seafood, this is the place to enjoy fresh lobster with several great restaurants available.
Thurs., Sept. 25: Our destination today is Historic Boston, MA. We arrive in Boston for a full-day tour including the U.S.S. Constitution, Lexington and Concord, Old North Church, and more. Enjoy lunch on your own today at Quincy Market. We overnight in the Boston area.
Fri., Sept. 26: Another exciting day begins with a visit to the Portland Headlight, which is along the Atlantic Ocean and as far east as this tour extends. This is the first lighthouse authorized by the United States and the oldest lighthouse in continuous use. It was erected on orders from George Washington. Then we will continue our journey along the beautiful drive on the Kancamagus Highway through the White Mountains, enjoying the beautiful fall colors. Our destination is Lincoln, NH, nestled in the Loon Mountain Range.
Sat., Sept. 27: Our travels takes us through Franconia Notch State Park. Next, we will make a short stop at Bath, NH, to see an old General Store and a covered bridge from past years, still in use today. We arrive in Burlington, VT, in time to catch the Lake Champlain Ferry to Port Kent, New York. We will see the Avenue of Flags, near Wilmington, Vermont, which were used for skiing events during the 1980 Winter Olympics held in Lake Placid. We will overnight in Watertown, NY.
Sun., Sept. 28: In Canada this morning we board the Gananoque Boats for a narrated tour of the Thousand Islands twisting through the St. Lawrence Seaway. Here you will glide on clear water around island after island. We continue following around Lake Ontario through upper New York heading for Niagara Falls, ON, our home for tonight.
Mon., Sept. 29: We will spend some time at Niagara Falls, including an unforgettable Maid of the Mist boat ride to the base of the falls. Then travel through Ontario to our overnight destination, Dearborn, MI. Dearborn is the birthplace of Henry Fords automotive visions.
Tues., Sept. 30: As we begin our journey homeward we drive through Chicago, Illinois, viewing the skyline. This evening will be spent in Madison, WI.
Wed., Oct. 1: With our bags packed for the last time, we are on our way home. We take with us the captivating fall colors and memories of this wonderful tour. Making the necessary meal stops along the route, we arrive home early this evening. Thank you for traveling with Utopia Tours.
