What is Folklorama? Folklorama is a festival held in Winnipeg, Manitoba each summer celebrating the cultures of the World. You will find pavilions from Germany, Philippines, Africa, Scandinavia, and the Caribbean, for example. The festival is spread throughout the city in different buildings that represent a culture from around the World. During our visit we will visit three pavilions each evening, starting with appetizers, then dinner, then finishing with dessert. So, you really get to taste and see the different cultures throughout the evening. A fun time for all ages. Get Cultured - at Winnipeg Folklorama!
Wed., Aug. 13: We anticipate the fun days ahead on this tour to Winnipeg, Manitoba, for Folklorama with Utopia Tours. Our time spent experiencing Folklorama will be filled exploring the cultures of the World. We will taste the traditional home-cooked meals, dance to the beats of global sounds, traveling the planet in one diverse city. We will stop in Pembina for lunch on your own. Upon arrival in Winnipeg, MB, we will visit the Assiniboine Park located along the Assiniboine River. We check into our accommodations for the next two nights and ready ourselves for our first evening at Folklorama. Tonight we enjoy three pavilions, featuring three distinct countries. Pavilion #1 is a traditional appetizer. Pavilion #2 is a traditional meal. Pavilion #3 is a traditional dessert.
Thurs., Aug. 14: This morning we will go to the Museum of Man and Nature. Here you can climb aboard a 17th century ship, stare into the eyes of a hungry polar bear, and stroll through the streets of 1920s Winnipeg. Step back in time to the 19th century fur trade at the oldest stone fur trading post still intact in North America-Lower Fort Garry. Costumed interpreters will take you back to the mid-1800s as they reenact events of the early days of this Hudson Bay Company Post. Then its back to the hotel to meet our guide for another evening of Folklorama. Tonight we once again visit pavilions of three interesting countries. Pavilion #1 is a traditional appetizer. Pavilion #2 is a traditional meal. Pavilion #3 is a traditional dessert.
Fri., Aug. 15: Departing Winnipeg this morning, we make our way to The Mennonite Heritage Village, in Steinbach, MB, where we learn of the Mennonite way of life from the 14th century to present day. It exists to preserve and share the Mennonite heritage and illustrate the traditional way of life that has disappeared. With the usual stops along the route for your comfort we continue our journey homeward. Thank you for attending Folklorama with Utopia Tours!
